NAIROBI, Feb. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Ten crew members died when U.S. Marine Corps helicopters crashed off the coast of Djibouti on Friday, the U.S. military in the Horn of Africa country said on Sunday.

"The Department of Defense confirmed the deaths of 10 CH-53E crewmembers as a result of the crash that occurred off the coast of northern Djibouti Friday," the U.S. military said in a statement.

"Next-of-kin notifications have been made to all family members of the deceased; however, names are being withheld in deference tofamily members' privacy," Sunday's statement said.

The CH-53 helicopters crashed Friday at 5:30 p.m. (2230 GMT), and two crew members have been rescued alive by Djiboutian military officials, the U.S. military said on Saturday.

The two crew members rescued on Friday were in stable condition and to be flown to the U.S. Army's Landstuhl Army Hospital in Germany.

The military said the weather at the time of the crashes was partly cloudy with light to variable winds and "unlimited visibility." Enditem
