BAGHDAD, Feb. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Three policemen were killed and three others wounded when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle while they were escorting a convoy of oil tankers, a police source said.

"A roadside bomb went off at about 8:50 a.m. (0550 GMT) near a police vehicle while escorting a convoy of oil tankers on the highway, which passes through the Baghdad al-Jadida district," Captain Ahmed Abdullah said.

The blast destroyed the police vehicle, killing three policemen and wounding three others, Abdullah said.

Earlier in the day, another roadside bomb detonated near a police patrol near the al-Shaab stadium, killing a U.S. soldier and wounding another, according to the police.

The U.S. military did not confirm the information about their casualties in the incident. Enditem
