Canadian FM expresses condolences over Philippines landslide

    OTTAWA, Feb. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Canadian Foreign Minister Peter MacKay issued a statement Friday, paying condolences to the Philippine people on the tragedy caused by the landslide and offering assistance.

    "On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to offer my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of life caused by the Feb. 17 landslides. Our thoughts are with the suffering families," said the statement.

    MacKay said that "Canada stands ready to assist the government and people of the Philippines."

    At least 33 people were confirmed dead, 58 survivors were recovered and thousands remained missing by Friday evening after amassive landslide swept away more than 300 households in minutes in south-central Philippines. Enditem
