Plushenko survives car crash after winning Olympic gold

    TURIN, Feb. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Newly-crowned Olympic champion Yevgeny Plushenko of Russia survived a car crash incident en route to his trip back to Moscow after winning the men's figure skating at the Turin Olympics.

    The accident happed between Turin and Milan's Malpensa airport early on Friday due to fog, but the Olympic champion was unhurt, said the Italian news agency ANSA.

    Plushenko who was crowned in Turin on Thursday, left Turin for the flight back to Moscow in the early hours of Friday morning.

    The 23-year-old is expected back in Turin to perform in the Olympic exhibition gala on Feb 24. Enditem
