Chinese ambassador to India: Taiwan inseparable part of China
www.chinaview.cn 2006-02-16 20:10:52

NEW DELHI, Feb. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The Government of People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole China and Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Yuxi said while addressing a press conference here Thursday.

The Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, which involves safeguarding state sovereignty and territorial integrity, defending national honor and opposing external interference, he said.

The ambassador appreciated the Indian government for its adherence to the one-China policy. He said India sets a responsible state image of sticking to principal and safeguarding stability, and contributes to greater peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.

Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China. To date, 160 countries in the world have diplomatic relations with China and recognize the one-China principal, Sun said.

He said over the last one year, the Chinese central government had taken significant measures to safeguard pace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and promote cross-Strait relations.

He said on Jan. 29, 2006, the Chinese lunar spring festival, the leader of Taiwan authorities Chen Shui-bian made remarks advocating "Taiwan independence", which demonstrated once again that he is a troublemaker and saboteur of cross-Strait ties and peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
