Suspected Taliban behead Afghan intelligence personnel

KABUL, Feb. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- A group of suspected Taliban fighters beheaded two employees of the intelligence department in western Farah province of Afghanistan on Monday, provincial governor Azatullah Wasifi said Wednesday.

"The ill-fated men going on duty in Pusht-e-Road district on Monday went missing and their beheaded bodies were found Tuesday," Azatullah Wasifi told Xinhua via telephone.

Blaming the Taliban militias for their murder, the governor said, "Taliban rebels could have committed the crime."

But till now, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the murder.

Taliban militants have intensified militancy since the beginning of this year, especially in the southern provinces, and dozens of people have lost their lives so far in the Taliban-linked militancy.

As bordering with Iran, Farah is a comparatively peaceful province after the collapse of Taliban in late 2001.

Over 1,600 people, mostly Taliban militants, have been killed since the beginning of 2005. Enditem
