BEIJING, Feb. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- The Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, has sent a letter of condolence to the family of Sun Yun-suan, honorary chairman of Strait Exchange Foundation (SEF) in Taiwan, who died of a heart attack in Taipei Wednesday morning at the age of 92.

As the leading organization in charge of mainland-Taiwan relations, the association extends deep sympathizes to Sun's family. He was also honorary chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF).

Sun suffered acute heart failure, sources with the Veterans General Hospital in Taipei said.

Sun was born in east China's Shandong Province in 1913. Sun graduated from Harbin Polytechnical University in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, majoring in electric engineering.

Sun held many important posts. He was a member of the KMT Central Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of KMT Central Committee.

Sun was "premier" from 1978 to 1984 after having served as minister of economic affairs for nine years. He gained respect in Taiwan political circle for helping lay the foundation for Taiwan's economic growth.

Sun had been selected by late "President" Chiang Ching-kuo to be his successor, but Sun suffered a stroke in 1984, which effectively ended his political career before he was elevated to the "presidency". Enditem
