HAIKOU, Feb. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The publicity chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Saturday completed a four-day tour around farms in the southern province of Hainan, and called for efforts to build new socialist countryside.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said building socialist countryside is a responsibility of all Chinese people, and it is a crucial task for publicity personnel to report the efforts in building new countryside.

After inspecting Hainan's farms, which are under ecological countryside construction, Liu praised local officials' efforts and said building harmonious ecological farms conforms with the building of new socialist countryside in Hainan.

Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called for active participation of local farmers in thedrive of building new countryside, and urged local officials to make efforts to improve farmers' cultural life.

He asked publicity officials to care more about farmers and pay more attention to their needs.

"Decent cultural products and services should be provided for farmers, and on the other hand, they should create a harmonious and noble community," Liu said. Enditem
