JAKARTA, Feb. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Iran develops nuclear
energy for peaceful purpose and would not be afraid of a possible military
action from western countries, visiting Iranian Vice President Isfandyar Rahim
Mashaee said here Thursday.
To prove that it only develops
nuclear for peaceful purposes, Iran invited other countries to invest in its
uranium enrichment, the vice president told a joint press conference with his
Indonesian counterpart Jusuf Kalla after a meeting at the Indonesian Vice
Presidential office here.
"We have announced that we are ready for investment
from other countries in the enrichment of uranium in Iran, to show that all the
activities in Iran aimed at peace," said Isfandar.
Regarding the recent statement of U.S. Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld of possibility launching military strikes on Iran, the
Iranian vice president said that Iran would not be afraid of such actions.
"We are not afraid of the attacks from the United
States or other countries on the Iranian nuclear installation, because we do not
have something being hidden. We do not have an installation to make nuclear
bomb," he said.
"It (to launch the attacks) is not as easy as they
imagine, Iran is not Iraq, Iran is not Afghanistan," the Iranian vice president
said.
U.S. ambassador to Indonesia Lynn Pascoe said
recently that Iran had been trying to hide certain phases of its nuclear
proliferation.
"We want the elimination of double standard of
(U.S.), because it is the right of all countries to use and imply sophisticated
technology, in this case nuclear energy for peaceful purpose," said Isfandar.
On the same occasion, Indonesian vice president Jusuf
Kalla opposed the US possible plan of launching military action on Iran.
"One country can not be justified to attack or punish
another country only based on suspicions, based on that the people have
ability," said Kalla.
Indonesia abstained on the result of International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting in Vienna Austria last weekend to report
Iran soon to the United Nations Security Council. Enditem |
