    KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah has appointed crown prince and prime minister on Tuesday, the official KUNA news agency reported.

    Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, also the emir's brother, was named crown prince of the oil-rich Gulf country, and Minister of the emiri court Sheikh Nasser Mohammed al-Ahmed al-Sabah was named prime minister.

    The appointment of the crown prince, or successor to the emir, needs to be approved by a majority of the parliament.
