Terrorists operating training camps in Britain: report
www.chinaview.cn 2006-02-08 04:28:59

LONDON, Feb. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Terrorist training camps are operating in Britain where terrorists may be preparing for their next attack, police said, after Muslim cleric Abu Hamza was sentenced to seven years in prison on Tuesday for inciting murder and racial hatred as well as for possessing a terrorist training manual.

Police believe there is increasing evidence that the camps may be operational at secret locations in the country, Sky news reported on Tuesday.

Police have found hunting knives and a whole arsenal of terrorist paraphernalia after raiding in 2003 Finsbury Park Mosque where the cleric had been preaching for years.

The Mosque is thought to be a recruiting ground for Islamic radicals.

Gas masks, chemical, biological and nuclear protective suits, blank passports and blank-firing weapons were also discovered.

"The suspicion of the anti-terrorist branch was that this was probably material used in training camps in the UK," Sky news quoted a police source as saying.

Training camps were in operation in Afghanistan and Pakistan before the United States attacked the Taliban in 2001 and destroyed the terrorist facilities.

Three of the London suicide bombers killed on July 7 were thought to have visited the camps in Afghanistan. Enditem
