Russia reiterates one-China policy
www.chinaview.cn 2006-02-07 03:05:15

MOSCOW, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alexeyev said on Monday Russia adheres to the one-China policy.

Russia has taken note of Taiwan authorities leader Chen Shui-bian's recent "Taiwan independence" remarks, Alexeyev said at a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang. The Russian government has all along adhered to the one-China principle and supported China's efforts toward reunification, he said.

Russia offered its support for China's anti-secession law shortly after China's National People's Congress approved it last year, Alexeyev said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry will soon issue a statement reiterating its one-China stand and opposition to "Taiwan independence," he said. Enditem
