MUNICH, Feb. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Iranian representative, Abbas Araghchi, said here Saturday that referral of Iran to the UN Security Council would lead to escalation of nuclear crisis.

    Speaking in the 42nd Munich Conference on Security Policy, Araghchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, noted the referral would "loosen our hands and lead to escalation which no one needs".

    He said that Iran would like hold further talks with the international community.

    He said nuclear facilities in Iran opened to international inspectors and every step of nuclear program of his country is clear.

    He expressed his bewilderness that a small scale of nuclear activity in Iran was considered a threat and hit headlines, but "other country in our region with more than 200 nuclear warheads and violates the human rights of the Palestinians by occupying their land" was not considered a threat. His remark is referring to Israel.

    Iran has insisted that its nuclear program is designed to meet rising domestic demand for electricity and that it is fully peaceful. The IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency ) voted Saturday in Vienna to report Iran to the United Nations Security Council over concerns that Tehran is developing nuclear weapons.

    The security three-day conference gathered more than 300 heads of government, foreign and defense ministers from 50 states and regions.

    Aside from the anti-terror, transatlantic relations, and future role of NATO, Iran's nuclear issue overshadowed the three-day conference, which opened Friday. Enditem
