WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- A majority of U.S. senators on Tuesday voted to confirm Samuel Alito for the Supreme Court. 

    Alito was confirmed by a vote of 58 to 42. Senators cast their votes largely on a party line.

    Alto would become the 110th Supreme Court justice, to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.  Enditem
