www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-31 22:27:56

WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- A shooting spree took place Monday night in a postal processing center in California, killing 7, including the killer herself, U.S. media reported Tuesday.

Local police said the killer was a female ex-postal worker and the incident happened around 9:15 pm in the postal processing center near the University of California, Santa Barbara, about 160km northwest of Los Angeles.

Police responded quickly to an emergency call and initially found two people lying dead outside the postal processing center.

Two wounded women were located inside and were taken to a hospital.

One died and the other was listed in critical condition early Tuesday with a gunshot wound to the head.

During a search of the center, police found four additional bodies, including one believed to be the female killer.

Witness said some 50 to 60 postal employees were inside the building when the incident took place.

All the victims were believed to be postal employees and the police have not released their identities immediately.

Investigators are probing into the motivation of the killer. Enditem
