HONG KONG, Jan, 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee said on Tuesday that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government will send two medical staffs and four immigration officers to Egypt Tuesday evening to help Hong Kong tourists injured in a severe traffic accident.
The traffic accident killed 14 people and injured 30 others in the Egyptian resort of Luxor on Tuesday.
Lee said at a press briefing the six-member team will leave Hong Kong Tuesday evening for the Red Sea resort of Hurghada where the injured are hospitalized.
He said, he was greatly shocked by the news and felt sorry for the victims of the accident.
Lee, on behalf of Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang,conveyed deepest condolences to the traffic accident victims and pledged to provide every possible effort for helping those in need.
Lee said the HKSAR government has already contacted with the Chinese Embassy in Egypt for help.
The bus, carrying the tourists from the Red Sea resort of Hurghada to the southern Nile city of Luxor, was going over speed when it dashed out from the road.
The trip, 43 people altogether, was arranged by the Jetour agency, and left Hong Kong on Friday for a 10-day tour in Egypt.
The 30 wounded in the crash had already been taken to hospitals in Hurghada, one of Egypt's most popular holiday destinations.
Chow Wing-keung, sales director of the Jetour agency, said at a press conference that most of the tourists in the trip hold the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport. Jetour had informed relatives of the tourists and at least 10 people will take off to Cairo Tuesday night.
