WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. President George W. Bush said on Monday that his country would not support a Palestinian government that included Hamas unless the militant group recognized Israel's right to exist.

"The Hamas party has made it clear that they do not support the right of Israel to exist and I have made it clear so long as that's their policy that we will not support a Palestinian government made up of Hamas," Bush told reporters after a meeting with his Cabinet.

"Our message to Hamas is get rid of your arms, disavow terrorism, work to bring what you promised to the people of the Palestinian territories," he said.

Hamas, which won last week's Palestinian legislative election, has been termed by the United States as a terrorist group and urged to be disarmed.

Hamas reportedly has carried out nearly 60 suicide bombings against Israelis over the past five years. Enditem
