HELSINKI, Jan. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Finnish voters will go to the polls on Sunday to choose their next president.
Latest polls showed that incumbent Socialist Democrat Tarja Halonen holds a slim lead over her conservative rival in the run-off elections.
Halonen, Finland's first female president, was credited with 51percent of the vote against 49 percent for Sauli Niinistoe, a former finance minister.
In the first round on Jan. 15, Halonen got 46.3 percent of the vote against 24.1 percent for Niinistoe, and she was forced into arunoff.
The Social Democrats have held Finland's top job since 1982.
Polling stations are due to open at 9:00 a.m. (0700) and close at 8:00 p.m.(1800 GMT). Enditem |
