Strong quake jolts Ambon, Indonesia

    JAKARTA, Jan. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- A tectonic earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale jolted Indonesia's Maluku provincial capital of Ambon at 01:59 on Saturday causing local people to panic, sources said.

    But there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, Antara news agency reported.

    Based on the United States Geological System (USGS), the quake was located in the Banda Sea 191 kms south of Ambon, 457 northeast of Dili, Timor Leste, in a depth of 377 kms.

    Local people have contacted one another to know their fates, the report said. Enditem
