MADRID, Jan. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said that Hamas' victory in the Palestinian elections should reinvigorate international efforts to resurrect the Roadmap peace plan.

Zapatero said in a television interview late Thursday that he accepted the Islamic Resistance Movement's (Hamas) win as the legitimate expression of the Palestinians although he added that it was being seen as "an element of maximum difficulty for the peace process."

"A more radial organization has won, but this should not make us lose hope," he added.

In a surprising election victory for the militant group, Hamas won 76 seats and the ruling Fatah movement got 43 in the 132-member legislative council, according to preliminary official results announced Thursday evening. Enditem
