JAKARTA, Jan. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesian
prosecutors on Thursday demanded the death penalty for an Australian man for
drug trafficking, the second death sentence demand in marathon trials involving
nine suspects from Australia.
Andrew Chan, 21, is accused of playing a leading role
in the group's attempt to smuggle 10.9 kg of heroin from Bali island to their
home country.
Prosecutor Alopan Nainggolan told the Denpasar
District Court on the resort island to pronounce the defendant guilty of drug
trafficking and sentence him to death, reported the Antara news agency.
Andrew and his eight compatriots, dubbed the "Bali
nine" by Australian media, were arrested last April in separate raids at the
Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and at a hotel on Kuta beach area.
Myuran Sukumaran, 24, the group leader, was also
recommended Tuesday to get death sentence for "leading an international drug
syndicate."
The same court has heard prosecution demand of life
jail term for four other suspects earlier this week.
The Indonesian firing squad has executed three
foreigners for drug trafficking in the last two years. Enditem
