Palestinian election result delayed to day end: CEC

RAMALLAH, Jan. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian Central Election Commission (CEC) said on Thursday that an official result of Wednesday's parliamentary elections will be delayed to the end of the day.

The announcement of the result was originally set at 9:00 a.m. (0700 GMT), but was put off to later Thursday, the CEC said.

This delay came shortly after Hamas declared itself victor of the Jan. 25 legislative elections after garnering a majority of the 132 parliament seats up for grabs.

Officials from the ruling Fatah movement, long dominant in Palestinian politics, also conceded defeat by Hamas.

However, both groups have indicated willingness to form a coalition government before the election. Enditem
