Serbia and Montenegro remembers train accident victims
www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-26 02:53:03

BELGRADE, Jan. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Serbia and Montenegro government officials observed a minute's silence Wednesday in memory of the victims of a grave train accident in its capital city of Podgorica, official Tanjug news agency reported.

A packed passenger train, en route from Bijelo Polje to Podgorica, derailed and plunged into the Moraca river canyon in the vicinity of the capital on Monday, killing at least 44 and injuring 198.

"Montenegro will for ever remember the victims of this horrible accident, which represents one of the saddest pages in Montenegro's history," Montenegro President Filip Vujanovic said.

He said that Montenegro "will never recover from this irretrievable loss" and the tragedy seemed the worst and most painful because so many children had been either killed or injured at the very beginning of their lives.

Serbia and Montenegro President Svetozar Marovic, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and Parliament Speaker Ranko Krivokapic were also present at the commemoration. Enditem
