BUCHAREST, Jan. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Frigid temperatures blanketing Moldova has claimed at least lives of 13 people over the past five days, the Moldovan Information Agency reported on Wednesday.

Four men were found frozen to death on the streets while nine others died inside houses or yards as temperatures in the country plunged to minus 30 degrees Celsius, the coldest in four decades.

Chisinau, capital of Moldova, is also hit by the severe cold and all primary and high schools there have canceled classes.

In neighboring Ukraine, 24 people died of cold on Sunday alone, the country's Health Ministry said.

Elsewhere in Europe, more than 100 people have been killed by the cold wave that swept in from Siberia last week and moved further to East Europe. Enditem
