MEXICO CITY, Jan. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Two youths were fired upon and one of them was seriously wounded by two unknown attackers in the northern Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo Monday night, the local media reported.

The attack took place at 9:15 p.m. local time (0315 GMT) in the center of the city when the two gunmen opened fire on a group of youths. No one had been arrested as of Monday night.

The 27-year-old wounded man, who drove nearly three km to a hospital after the attack, was in serious condition.

Nuevo Laredo, a city of 300,000 people, is on the front line of a war for the control of the profitable cross-border drug trade between traffickers from the western Mexican state of Sinaloa and the local cartel.

The city has seen 19 cases of killing since the beginning of the year. Enditem
