Video footages on Russia's state television on Sunday showed that the FSB was "collecting intelligence from the fake rock".
LONDON, Jan. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia's security service FSB on Sunday night said that four employees of the British embassy in Moscow had been involved in spying activities, showing them on state television allegedly collecting intelligence using hi-tech gadgets.

The Guardian newspaper on Monday quoted an FSB spokesman as saying that his agency had accused the four of being spies.

"They have not been arrested. How could we? They are all diplomats," the spokesman said.

Video footages on Russia's state television on Sunday showed that the FSB caught the four late last year.

Video footages on Russia's state television on Sunday showed  "rock's" transmitter.
The FSB spokesman did not say what information the four tried to acquire.

Russia's RIA Novosti agency reported that the four allegedly used a secret transmitter in a fake rock on a street in central Moscow and then downloaded classified information from it.

"At first we thought it was a classic drop point -- a container camouflaged with a stone. Then ... it became clear there was an electric device inside it," the spokesman said.

He added that the device did not work properly and the four had to visit the rock regularly in autumn.

One of the diplomats was filmed dressed "as a student" with a rucksack on his back.

So far, the British embassy in Moscow has declined to comment on the allegations. Enditem
