Angolan ambassador: China's African policy trustworthy

BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- China's African Policy Paper is a real trustworthy document giving "strength" and "courage" to the African people, Angolan ambassador Joao Bernardo to China told Xinhua in a recent interview.

"The African people should believe that China is a true friend of Africa," Bernardo said, "Africa can develop by its own effort with China's help."

He noted that the document highlighted China's aid to Africa is "without any political conditions" which has the very reason for China to win trust from African countries.

After 27 years of civil war, Angola is in urgent need of rebuilding its national economy.

China and Angola signed an export buyer's credit agreement in 2003, which offered sufficient funding for the reconstruction of Angola's economy, the ambassador acknowledged.

China's investment in Angola is not as what Western media have trumpeted that China is pursuing so-called new colonial activities in Africa, Bernardo said.

In resources cooperation with Angola, China brought benefits to the Angolan people, Bernardo said, adding that the cooperation is mutually beneficial.

Chinese enterprises have engaged in Angolan economic reconstruction and especially made investment in infrastructure construction in Angola.

"China's investment may not make much profits but it provided timely help for Angolan people who have suffered from warfare for many years," he said.

"China's development does not spell a threat to the world but rather serve as a role model for us to see that Africa also has the opportunity to achieve development and prosperity," Ambassador Bernardo said. Enditem
