KUWAIT CITY, Jan. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Kuwaiti parliament has rejected an order from the new but ailing Emir Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah to advance his inauguration from Tuesday to Monday, legislative sources said on Monday.

The sources said the parliament rejected Sheikh Saad's decree to bring forward his taking the oath of office to Monday.

Previously, Sheikh Saad had announced his intention to swear in during a special parliament session on Tuesday.

A short while ago, Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Jasem al-Khorafi confirmed that he has received a cabinet request for a vote in the legislature on whether to remove Sheikh Saad.

The cabinet also said that Sheikh Saad is no longer fit, healthwise to carry out his constitutional duties.

Al-Khorafi said that the parliament will hold a special closed-door session on Tuesday morning to discuss whether to resort to the country's Law of Succession, which stipulates that the emir can be removed if he is incapable of carrying out power for health reasons.

The removal will come if it is favored by two-thirds of the legislators.

Sheikh Saad, who has been largely incapacitated by illness for a long time, was announced as the new emir in succession to late emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah who died on Jan. 15. Enditem
