US rescuers find bodies of missing coal miners
www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-22 08:29:15

WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Rescue workers on Saturday found the bodies of the two missing miners trapped in a coal mine fire in West Virginia, authorities said.

Doug Conaway, director of the state Office of Miners' Health Training and Safety, said rescuers found the bodies of the two miners, but "unfortunately we don't have a positive outcome," CNN reported.

Nineteen miners managed to escape after the fire in Arocoma Coal's Alma No. 1 mine in Mellville, southwestern West Virginia, Thursday night, but two others were trapped inside the mine.

The mine received more than 90 citations from the Mine Safety and Health Administration in 2005.

On Jan. 2, a blast in the Sago Mine in West Virginia killed 12 workers, and the only survivor still remained hospitalized. Enditem
