Russian duo win European figure skating title

    LYON, France, Jan. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia's Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin won the pairs title at the European Figure Skating Championships on Wednesday.

    The Russian champions scored 195.87 points for the win, Germany's Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy claimed the silver medal with 188.08 and another Russian couple Maria Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov were third with 187.04.

    Czech pairs champions Olga Prokuronova and Karel Stefl withdrew midway after Prokuronova fell to the ice on her cheek after Stefl lost his balance while attempting to lift his partner.

    International Skating Union doctor Ruben Ambartsumov said Prokuronova had not suffered any serious injury but was being sent to a local hospital for further examination as a precaution. Enditem
