Dissolution of govt not to affect foreign policy: Mongolian FM
www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-16 17:12:55

ULAN BATOR, Jan. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The dissolution of the Mongolian government will not affect the country's foreign policy, acting Foreign Minister Monkh-Orgil said on Monday.

A new government will be formed soon and it will, as in the past, continue to develop relations with other countries in the world, Monkh-Orgil told reporters.

The Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP), which holds the most seats in the parliament, has decided to form a "government of national unity" with other parties, and two parties have already expressed their support for the decision, he said.

The new prime minister will be nominated before Jan. 20 and other cabinet members are to be named before Jan. 27, he added.

Ten MPRP ministers handed in their resignations last Wednesday, signalling the party's withdrawal from the coalition government led by Prime Minister Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, of the Democratic Party.

After Mongolia's parliamentary elections in 2004, the MPRP and the "Motherland democracy coalition" formed a coalition government with Elbegdorj as the prime minister.

The parliament accepted the government's resignation after lengthy debates on Friday. Enditem
