US, India discuss Indo-US nuke deal
www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-13 20:29:21

NEW DELHI, Jan. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A visiting U.S. Congress delegation discussed the India-US civil nuclear energy deal with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Indo-Asian News Service reported here Friday.

It is reported that the Congressmen were positive about the India-US civil nuclear cooperation agreement and appreciated India's non-proliferation credentials.

The delegation, however, maintained that the success of the agreement depended on the separation plan of civil and military nuclear facilities presented by India.

It is further reported that Manmohan Singh thanked the Congressmen, who are here weeks ahead of the visit of the U.S. President George W. Bush, for taking an encouraging view of India's growing need for environment-friendly nuclear energy. The issue of dealing with terrorism was also discussed during the meeting.

The 10-member delegation, led by veteran Republican Congressmen Ohio Paul Gilmore, met with Indian MPs under the aegis of the India-US Parliamentary Forum. Enditem
