Death of UN force commander in Haiti attributed to suicide
www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-13 05:58:27

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Suicide is the official cause of the death over the weekend of Brazilian Lt. Gen. Urano Teixeira Da Matta Bacellar, then the commander for the UN peacekeeping force in Haiti, a UN spokesman said on Thursday.

Stephanie Dujarric told reporters that was the conclusion of both the UN peacekeeping mission and the Brazilian government.

Bacellar, 58, was found dead of a gunshot wound last Saturday at his suite in a hotel in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. He had been in command of the 9,000-strong UN force in Haiti since last September. Enditem
