British cleric tried for terror instigation

LONDON, Jan. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- British Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri kept a terrorism "manual" which contained a dedication to Osama bin Laden, it was heard at London's famous criminal court Old Bailey on Wednesday.

The Encyclopaedia of Afghani Jihad, which was found at Hamza's home, also advised hitting targets including skyscrapers and Big Ben, the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower, Sky news reported.

The 10-volume encyclopaedia contained a dedication to "Abu Abdullah Osama bin Laden" for "carrying out jihad in Afghanistan and who is still, to this date, inciting jihad", the report said.

The manual said plans "should be laid out" to hit buildings such as skyscrapers, ports, airports, nuclear plants and football stadiums and it talked about attacking large congregations of people at Christmas.

Prosecutor David Perry said he had a copy of the Encyclopaedia of the Afghani Jihad - a "manual for terrorism", which explained how to make explosive and run a terrorist unit.

"This ... is a blueprint, a manual for terrorism which echoes the things which feature in the defendant's speeches," said Perry.

Hamza, 47, from west London, faces nine charges for soliciting others at public meetings to murder Jews and other non-Muslims, as well as four charges for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior with the intention of stirring up racial hatred.

A further charge alleges Hamza was in possession of video and audio recordings which he intended to distribute to stir up racial hatred.

The final charge under the Terrorism Act accuses him of possessing a document which contained information "likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism".

Hamza denies all the charges before the trail was adjourned until Thursday. Enditem
