Mongolia's biggest party quits coalition govt

ULAN BATOR, Jan. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Mongolia's biggest political party on Wednesday announced it has quit the coalition government.

In a statement, the Mongolian People's Revolution Party (MPRP) said it made the decision following internal conflicts in the coalition.

The MPRP said the internal conflicts had weakened the ability of the government to run the country.

"The government has no legal foundation or capacity to exist. Apolitical vacuum has been created in Mongolia," the MPRP said in the statement.

The MPRP, which has 38 of the 76 seats in the Grand Hural, Mongolia's parliament, said it hoped to form its own government with other parties.

The MPRP also demanded Prime Minister Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj's resignation from government.

Elbegdorj is a member of the Motherland and Democratic coalition, which formed an alliance with the MPRP in August 2004 following the parliamentary elections.

Mongolia's parliament will meet on Thursday to discuss the MPRP's move. Enditem
