BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese Minister of
Culture Sun Jiazheng said here Tuesday that China's cultural sector saw progress
in eight aspects in the past five years, when China carried out its 10th
five-year (2000-2005) plan.
At the annual meeting for senior
cultural officials nationwide,Sun said first, China's artistic creation and
performance has reported a boom over the past five years, with the launching of
a national project to promote performing arts. From 2002 to 2005, 102
performances covering almost all artistic styles gained financial support from
the government investment totaling more than 100 million yuan (12.5 million US
dollars).
While inspiring artistic creation, Sun said, the
government also introduced modern marketing into artistic troupes. Over the past
five years, the artistic troupes of all types in China annually staged 410,000
performances to 430 million person times of audience.
Sun said, secondly, the Chinese government placed its
working focus on the grassroot cultural sector, especially in the vast rural
areas. With large investment by the government at all levels, almost all
counties in China have established a library and cultural center.
He stressed that the third achievement is the
improvement of the cultural market system with non-public sectors participating
in the market. With the help of advanced technology and modern business methods
like chain stores, the culture industry has seen an industrial upgrading, The
Chinese government also improved policies and regulations and the administrative
capability were in line with law.
Fourthly, Sun said, China issued a set of documents
on cultural industry development, inviting non-pubic sectors to be more active
in the Chinese cultural market.
Fifthly, external cultural relations and the Chinese
mainland's communication with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were enhanced, Sun
said. the culture year, scoring a great success in boosting Sino-French
bilateral ties, has become a cultural brand in China's foreign ties.
Sun noted that sixthly, China's protection of
cultural heritage has made remarkable progress, with the issuing of the Law for
the Protection of Cultural Relics, and the revising of the specific regulation
attached to the Law. China also joined the convention on protecting intangible
cultural heritage of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture
Organization (UNESCO).
Seventhly, Sun said, China made further steps in
cultural reform among national artistic troupes, public service institutes, and
profit-making enterprises, represented by China Art and Entertainment Group
(CAEG).
Eighthly, the Chinese government increased financial
support in cultivating professional personnel and introducing talent in need.
In conclusion, Sun underscored that the national
financial support to cultural second hit its record high over the past several
years. From 2000 to 2004, investment in the cultural sector reached 36.234
billion yuan (around 4.5 billion US dollars),increasing by 42.4 percent than the
total of the ninth five-year (1995-2000) plan. In 2004, appropriating funds for
culture totaled 11.366 billion yuan (about 1.42 billion US dollars), exceeding
10 billion yuan (some 1.25 billion dollars) for the first time. Enditem
