www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-08 03:15:32

LOME, Jan. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Burkina Faso's President Blaise Compaore has formed a new 34-member government including five female ministers, according to reports reaching here from Ouagadougou on Saturday.

Prime Minister Paramanga Ernest Yonli, Foreign Affairs Minister Youssouf Ouedraogo and Defense Minister Yero Boly are held on to their posts in a government dominated by the ruling Congress for Democracy and Progress.

Compaore, a former army captain who rose to power in a bloody 1987 coup, won another five-year term with a landslide victory in Nov. 13 elections. His inauguration was in late December.

Landlocked Burkina Faso, bordering the Sahara desert in west Africa, is among the world's poorest countries, with high rates of unemployment and illiteracy. Enditem
