SHANGHAI, Jan. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Six new tunnels will be built spanning the Huangpu River, which flows through most of Shanghai metropolis and empties itself into the Yangtze River Estuary, in five years to come.

When all the tunnels are finished, there will be one vehicle-reserved facility crossing the river in every two kilometers, said information from the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Civil Works.

It is unknown how much it will cost to build the tunnels.

Currently, there are many vehicle-reserved passages spanning the Huangpu River, with 54 lanes. Four of the total passages were constructed in the past five years, ending in 2005. Enditem
