Police disperse people trying to cross Rafah border
www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-05 03:56:32

GAZA, Jan. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian police and security forces dispersed on Wednesday night scores of people trying to cross the border between the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah and Egypt, witnesses said.

Police and security forces arrived at the border line after militants demolished by bulldozers part of a cement fence on the Palestinian side of the border.

Police prevented the militants from continuing the demolition of the fence and pushed away the people who were trying to cross into Egypt.

A few Palestinians managed to reach the Egyptian side of the fence, but the Egyptian army forced them to get back to Rafah.

The witnesses said that the situation was calm, and dozens of police officers were sealing the hole made by bulldozers. Enditem
