BAGHDAD, Jan. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Some 30 people were killed when a suicide bomb attacked a funeral procession on Wednesday northeast of Baghdad, a source from Iraqi-US liaison office in Baquba told Xinhua.

"A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up at a funeral procession near a cemetery in the town of Maqdadiyah, some 120 km northeast of Baghdad," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The powerful blast also wounded 36 others, he said. Local police confirmed that the people, who were attending a Shiite Muslim funeral in Maqdadiyah, were killed when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt among them.

The mourners were relatives and family of Ahmed al-Baki, a senior official of a Shiite leading party in Deyala province, according to media reports. Enditem
