UPSHUR, the United States, Jan. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Twelve miners trapped in a
West Virginia coal mine for over 41 hours were found alive early Wednesday, a
spokesman of the governor said.
"The twelve miners have been located and are being moved to the surface and their
condition is being assessed while they are being moved," said Tom Hunter,
spokesman of the governor of West Virginia, Joe Manchin.
Conditions of the miners were unknown and several ambulances were parked at
the entrance of the Sago mine in central West Virginia, where the men had been
trapped some 4,000 meters below the surface after an explosion early Monday.
Families and friends of the miners gathering at the mine cheered when they
heard the news.
Earlier reports said that one body had been found Tuesday about 3,400 meters
from the entrance.
President George W. Bush said the government would do all in its power to
help save the trapped men.
"May God bless those who are trapped below the earth, and may God bless
those who are concerned about those trapped below the earth," Bush said. Enditem
