NEW DELHI, Jan. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- The Bangalore police arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Abdul Rehman from South India's Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, in connection with Bangalore shootout, New Delhi Television reported here on Tuesday.

While holding a press conference in South Indian city Bangalore on Tuesday, the police commissioner A K Singh revealed that the LeT links of the arrested terrorists had been established. He saidthat the arrested militant could be the mastermind of South India's operations of LeT.

Refusing to elaborate further, the police commissioner said they had definite leads leading to his arrest.

They had a good reason to arrest him, he said, while clarifyingthat this was the only arrest that the police had made in connection with the Bangalore shootout so far.

The court has remanded Rehman to 14 days in police custody. He will be interrogated during the period.

It is reported that Rehman's passport shows him to be an Indiannational.

However, Singh added that such people usually lived under the cover of multiple identities, had multiple passports and Rehman was one name they knew.

He said that his arrest would prevent further attacks.

The 35-year-old militant is being held in connection with the shootout last week in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus in South India's Bangalore. An IIT professor from Delhi was killed and four others injured in the shootout. Enditem
