BUCHAREST, Jan. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- A Russian-Ukrainian natural gas price row has
resulted in a drop of five million cubic meters of gas supplies to Romania per
day, but unusually warm winter temperatures have counteracted the impact,
Romanian Economy Minister Codrut Seres said Monday.
"We are dealing with a fall of five million cubic meters a day from the
amount of gas imported by Romania from Russia," Seres told the Realitatea TV
station.
Romania is a heavy importer of Russian natural gas but Seres said the drop did
not affect the consumers much as the country was experiencing unusually warm
winter days.
Russian gas giant Gazprom cut down natural gas supplies to Ukraine on
Sunday after Kiev shrugged off Moscow's demand to more than quadruple the gas
price.
Gazprom provides about half the gas consumed in the European Union (EU) and
some 80 percent of that amount is sent through pipelines that cross Ukraine.
