BAGHDAD, Jan. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Gunmen attacked the convoy of the Turkish ambassador to Iraq in western Baghdad on Monday and slightly wounded the official, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

The convoy carrying Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Unal Cevikoz was attacked by machine guns and some vehicles were damaged, Turkey's Anatolia news agency said.

Haitham al-Zahawi, the ambassador's assistant, was quoted by Anatolia as saying that the convoy was carrying Ambassador Unal Cevikoz back to his office from a meeting with a senior Sunni leader in western Baghdad.

Cevikoz met Sheik Harith al-Dhari, head of the influential Association of Muslim Scholars, whose headquarters is located in the Um al-Qura mosque compound in western Baghdad, Anatolia said. Enditem
