Czech unaffected by Russia's cutoff of gas to Ukraine

PRAGUE, Jan. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Czech gas supplies remained unaffected by Russia's cutoff of supplies to Ukraine, Czech gas importer and distributor RWE Transgas said on Monday.

The gas supplies transported from Russia via Ukraine have not been affected by the cutback, RWE Transgas spokesman Martin Chalupsky said without elaborating.

Russian gas giant Gazprom cut down natural gas supplies to Ukraine on Sunday after Kiev rejected Russia's demand to more than quadruple the price.

Many European countries, such as Austria, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, which rely heavily on the Russian gas from the pipelines that cross Ukraine, have reported a sharp drop in their supplies.

The Czechs receive around two-thirds of their gas from Russia, the rest coming from Norway. Enditem
