US embassy in Kuala Lumpur closes on security threat

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The U.S. embassy in Kuala Lumpur closed Friday indefinitely due to security threat, a source said here.

The staff members working at the embassy had been informed to leave the embassy at 11:30 a.m. and were waiting for further notice to return to work, said the source, who declined to be identified.

However, the source refused to disclose or comment on what specific security threat the embassy had received, only saying that the embassy spokeswoman Kathryn Taylor had issued a statement about that through e-mail.

On Oct. 5, the U.S. embassy here, along with at least eight other diplomatic missions, reportedly received envelopes containing suspicious substance, which were proved to be hoaxes later by the authorities. Enditem
