Israeli violence may blow up peace efforts: Palestine
www.chinaview.cn 2005-12-28 21:03:02

GAZA, Dec. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Legislative Council (parliament) Speaker Rawhi Fatouh warned on Wednesday that the Israeli escalation of violence would blow up efforts to revive peace talks between the two sides.

The comments came after the Israeli military stepped up airraids on Gaza, targeting roads used by militants to reach the launch sites for cross-border rocket attacks.

Fatouh totally rejected enforcing a security zone in the northern Gaza Strip by Israel to prevent Palestinian militants from launching homemade rockets at Israel.

He slammed the international silence over the ongoing Israeli attack on the Palestinian territories, and urged the Quartet Committee on the Middle East to stop or put a limit to this escalation.

He also condemned the Israeli decision to bar Palestinians living in the Arab east Jerusalem from voting in the legislative elections due on Jan. 25.

"It is very important for the residents living in Jerusalem to participate in the elections away from any external interference,"Fatouh said.  Enditem
