RIYADH, Dec. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Five Saudi policemen were killed on Tuesday north of the capital in clashes with militants, the interior ministry said.

The five were killed when a wanted militant opened fire at a police checkpoint in the northern Qassim province, the ministry said.

The militant was later arrested, the ministry added.

It was not known yet whether the attack was linked to al-Qaida terror network.

Saudi authorities have been battling a wave of attacks against foreign targets which bear al-Qaida marks in the oil-rich kingdom. Enditem
