RAMALLAH, Dec. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei denied on Saturday that he quit from his post as the prime minister.
Qurei told reporters that he only quit from the list of the Fatah movement's candidates who will run for the legislative election due on Jan. 25.
"I oppose holding the election under current circumstances, and I became unconvinced to run for the election, because it was not me who decided to run, it was the Fatah Central Committee who nominated me," said Qurei, adding Israel still rejects holding the election in Jerusalem.
Disputes have emerged recently in the Fatah movement after its candidates decided to run for the election with two lists -- one representing the younger generation and the other nominated by the Fatah Central Committee.
Efforts have been underway over the past few days to unite the two lists. Enditem |
