JAKARTA, Dec. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Malaysia's state-run oil firm Petronas has expressed commitment to build 400 gas pumps in Indonesia, a government official said here Thursday.

The gas pumps will be built in stages until 2011, said Erie Soedarmo, director of production and marketing with the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"Petronas is willing to sell special fuel with octane number above 92," he was quoted by Detikcom on-line news services as saying.

The Malaysian firm has already built a gas pump in the town of Cibubur, south of Jakarta, he said.

Besides Petronas, Ango-Dutch oil giant Shell also plans to build gas pumps at the same quantity, he said.

The government has decided to end monopolistic fuel retailing business held by state-run oil firm Pertamina. The open market is effective from Jan. 1, 2006. Enditem
